Search for 'Daily Planet (DC)(Earth-1 - Pre Crisis)' on Amazon

The Daily Planet is the oldest paper currently being published in Metropolis, having been founded in 1826 as a foursheeter.
The very first day of publication was marred by tragedy when Jeremiah Odets, a teenaged printer's apprentice (or devil), was killed by a large roll of paper that fell on him. His ghost is said to guard the Planet to this day and has saved the paper on at least one occasion.
Today the Planet not only publishes its regular editions, but others in various parts of the world, including London, Paris, Bombay, Athens, Rome, Amsterdam, and Toyko.
A few years ago the paper was sold to Galaxy Communications (Morgan Edge president). The Daily Planet Building was then remodeled and extra stories were added. Presently the building rises 52 stories but officially there are only 51, there supposedly being no thirteenth floor. In fact it exists and is used secretly by an alien tourist bureau dealing in vacations to Earth.
The Planet offices are located on the 8th floor, the Galaxy Broadcasting studios on the twentieth. Galaxy Records and Videos on the fourteenth, et al Morgan Edge works in a combination office apartment in the penthouse.
Perry White has been with the Planet more then half a century. He started as a newsboy and worked his way up to reporter and finally when his predecessor George Taylor, retired editor.
Both Clark Kent and Lois Lane worked briefly at the Planet while in their teens, and they are now the top reporters for the Planet.
Clark, of course, also works as a TV anchorman on the WGBS 6 O'Clock News. Lois and Jimmy Olsen have also done some TV work.
Jimmy Olsen began as an office boy and worked his way up, first cub reporter, then to full reporter. Like Lois and Clark, he is noted for his courageous investigative reporting.
Most people assume that it is the Planet's reputation for fairness and honesty that allows it to get so many Superman exclusives. But then, few people know Superman is Clark Kent.
Other staffers at the Planet include: Margaret (Meg) Tempest, who is a real go getter; Percival (Percy) Bratten, who got his job because his father is a major stockholder in Galaxy; Justin Moore, cub reporter; Ryan Lowell, obituary editor; Mark Spencer, "gofer" and aspiring reporter; Jamie Gillis, photographer and girlfriend of Mark Spencer; Jennifer Owens, receptionist; Sally Windfield, Perry's secretary; Connie Hatch (Action Comics #550), puzzle editor; Janice Denton (Lois Lane #1-2), features editor; Ed Brynes (Lois Lane #1), night editor; James Patrick McCullough (Lois Lane #1-2), the newest hired member of the staff and the new city editor.
Former sports columnist Steve Lombard was fired from both the Planet and GBS awhile ago.
Like many newspapers, the Planet has had a good deal of financial trouble in the past few years. However, thanks to Morgan Edge's support, the paper continues its valuable work, despite competition from its rival, the Metropolis Eagle.
