Ant-Man (Marvel)(03 - Eric O'Grady)

While wearing the Ant-Man armor, O'Grady has the ability to shrink to the size of an insect while retaining full-sized strength. He also possesses two robotic arms he can release from the back of his armor when he is shrunk. The armor's main mode of transportation is a jetpack that can be detached and used as a weapon by turning the jet's flames onto an enemy. He also has the ability to talk to insects while wearing the suit. However, he has not quite trained in this ability and is lacking in skill.

Eric O'Grady is a low-level agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. who in that agency's headquarters stumbles upon scientist Dr. Henry Pym's 2006 iteration of the Ant-Man suit, and appropriates it for himself. Unlike most such comic book characters, he uses his newfound suit to better his own life instead of humanity, in situations such as stealing his deceased best friend's girlfriend and using his powers in a bar fight.

Chris McCarthy, O'Grady's best friend and fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. surveillance agent, was the first to wear the new Ant-Man suit, but was killed during an attack by the terrorist group HYDRA. Mitch Carson, to whom O'Grady looks up, is a S.H.I.E.L.D. security agent under Dum Dum Dugan and was a candidate for the S.H.I.E.L.D Ant-Man Program. Since O'Grady vanished with the Ant-Man suit, Carson was given a prototype Ant-Man suit of his own by Dr. Pym to aid in his mission to bring O'Grady in. During a battle with Carson, O' Grady fired his jets and inadvertently burned the left half of Carson's face, leaving him deaf and blind on that side.

Veronica King, a female agent on whom O'Grady has a crush, but who dated the late McCarthy, has been steadily drawn to O'Grady since her boyfriend's death. O'Grady has not divulged his double life nor the role he played in McCarthy's accidental death in the line of duty. Taking advantage of her vulnerability in the wake of that death, he kissed and attempted to make out with her on McCarthy's grave. He later had sex with her, resulting in her becoming pregnant.

O'Grady has since used his Ant-Man abilities to spy on women in states of undress. Ant-Man jumps into the purse of Ms. Marvel, a member of the superhero team the Avengers, and ends up in combat alongside them before fleeing. He encounters the thief Black Fox, and steals his possessions. After saving the life of a child, he encounters the organization Damage Control. Damage Control offer him a job and after getting a fake ID under the name Derek Sullivan and the Superhero name Slaying Mantis. He meets a woman named Abigail, who he starts dating and sleeping with. Two weeks later he leased apartment under his new name. Later Black Fox, shows up looking for the jewels. But sold them to a crooked pawnshop, two start working to together to sell fifty thousand dollars and keeps 15 percent.

While working for Damage Control every time S.H.I.E.L.D. come to take the "bad guy" into custody, he goes looking for suvivors and tells Abigail he once dated a low-level agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and wish to avoid her. Black Fox show up at his apartment and the two start playing Wii. Seeing an employee named Frank saiding leaving Damage Control because all employees have superpower and now with to register with S.H.I.E.L.D., McCarthy helps him getting a fake ID. He is Registration under the "Code Name" Slaying Mantis, after giving the agent one hundred dollars to take the photo with a mask on. Later a date with Abby he finds out she is a Single mother with a son. He starts a fight because she kept him a secret and breaks up with her.

Later Abby said that she can read people's emotions telepathically and that "I know you're in love with me" before he can answer him, the Hulk attacked Manhattan (See World War Hulk), Eric was caught in the crossfire, and tried to fight the Hulk from the inside of his body. However, the Hulk's stomach and innards proved to be just as tough and Eric ended up being discharged through one of the nostrils. He awoke in a SHIELD infirmary, with Mitch Carson standing by his bed, stating that he was under arrest.

Carson takes Eric to a secret room aboard the helicarrier, and proceeds to torture him, using the Ant-Man suit to internally wound him. Just as Carson is on the verge of burning Eric's face with the suit's jet boosters, Iron Man arrives and subdues him. Eric decides to pin the whole stolen-suit fiasco on Carson, saying that he was only trying to stop him from using the suit for evil. Iron Man appears to be sceptical, but then Black Fox arrives on the scene, demanding Eric's release, and claiming to placed explosives on the helicarrier. Eric rebukes this statement, and the shield agents take Black Fox in. Week's later, Eric is back at his post on the Helicarrier, having returned to life as usual.

Several SHIELD agents tried using O'Grady's Ant-Man suit. Even with the assistance of the suit's inventor, Hank Pym, none of the candidates could effectively work with the suit. Iron Man eventually enlists O'Grady to wear the suit again, and sends him to Camp Hammond for training.

His first day at Camp Hammond was also the day Taskmaster was brought in by Henry Peter Gyrich to be the new drill instructor. O'Grady and Taskmaster started trading disparaging remarks concerning the deceased former Ant-Man, Scott Lang. Unfortunately, their remarks were heard by Scott's daughter, Cassie Lang aka Stature. Enraged, she confronted O'Grady growing into giant size. Hank Pym, as Yellowjacket, did the same in order to stop her. Just as she was about to step on O'Grady, his suit's A.I. recognized Lang's use of Pym particles to grow to giant size. To O'Grady's surprise, it then asked if he wanted to do the same in order to defend himself. After a brief skirmish between the three giants, they were eventually subdued by Taskmaster using the occasion to give his first lesson as the new drill instructor to the Initiative cadets.

While with the Secret Avengers, O'Grady died while saving a child during a battle with The Descendants. He was seen later, however it turned out to be a Life Model Decoy.
