Super-human strength (ability to lift up to 50 tons when cosmically enhanced), high resiliance, endurance, fast healing, flight, emit concussive bursts of cosmic energy, able to create a cocoon to escape danger, recuperate, and gain new powers, excellent hand-to-hand combat skills.

An artificial life form created by the Enclave to be the perfect human, Adam Warlock became aware of his creators' evil plans and destroyed them. Emerging from his cocoon as a fully-grown human, he did not not have a fully developed set of morals, even seeking out Thor's love Sif as a potential mate.

Overwhelmed by Earth, Warlock eventually returned to his cocoon and departed the Earth. He eventually came into contact with the High Evolutionary, who gave Warlock his soul gem and something more important, a sense of purpose by proclaiming Warlock the savior of Counter-Earth! Using his abilities to defeat the Man-Beast and his New Men, Warlock would eventually sacrifice himself to save Counter Earth, only to return from death more powerful than before.

Soon after, Warlock came into contact with his evil future self, known as the Magus. Seeing the evil that was in himself, Warlock also realized that his soul gem acted as a sort of symbiote, granting Warlock the memories of all souls absorbed by the gem. Warlock would eventually meet Thanos, who would become his sometime-rival, sometime-ally. Warlock would eventually sacrifice himself again to stop Thanos' evil schemes, turning Thanos into a statue in the process.

Spending many years inside the soul gem, Warlock was eventually needed again and inhabited the body of a recently deceased man, reforming it into one resembling his original body. Using his experience against Thanos, Warlock led the heroes of the Univers against Thanos in his quest to reshape the Universe with the Infinity Gauntlet. With Thanos stopped, Warlock would divide the soul gems under his supervision among a group known as the Infinity Watch.

Eventually, the Infinity Watch would disband and Warlock found himself in a parallel universe known as the Ultraverse, where the energy vampire Rune sought to use the Infinity Gems to reshape the universe in his image.

Later, Warlock would be found back in the Marvel Universe in an insane asylum. Learning of a conflict threatening the universe itself, Warlock would be instrumental in mentoring the new architect of reality. Soon thereafter, Thanos gained ultimate power once again and in a fit of rage, destroyed the universe, but was convinced by Warlock to reform the universe.

Since then, Warlock learned of the Enclave's attempts to create another artificial human and he has sought out this creation.

Although created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Jim Starlin is often thought of as the "definitive" Warlock creator. Creative disagreements over the direction of the Warlock character would eventually lead to a severing of ties between Starlin and Marvel in 2004.
