Protector (Marvel)(04 - Thoran Rul)
Real Name: Thoran Rul
Search for 'Protector (Marvel)(04 - Thoran Rul)' on Amazon

Bio:
Thoran Rul was the Prime Thoran of Xandar, whose duty was to protect the Xandarian's Living Computers (aka Worldmind). To defend them against the Skrulls, he effected a mind-meld with the Worldmind, the living disembodied brains preserved within the Xandarian computer network. He thus gained the collective knowledge of those brains and psionic abilities, and became known as the Protector, the Keeper of the computers, and one of the Champions of Xandar.

Along with the Champions of Xandar and the Nova Corps, the Xandarians were able to repel the Skrull's invasion for a time. However this was part of the Skrull's attack plan. They always retreated briefly, but then attacked again with renewed force. Protector, along with his fellow Champion Nova-Prime, took to space with the Nova Corps to follow and fight the Skrulls. After weeks of waiting on Xandar, his fellow Champions of Xandar Comet, Crimebuster and Diamondhead, took a ship to follow. Diamondhead stayed true to his villainous roots and betrayed The Champions and the Nova Corps to the Skrulls, allowing the Skrulls in infiltrate many Xandarian ships. Crimebuster discovered their plan and as he was about to warn the rest of his fellow Champions, he was murdered by a Skrull. The Skrulls then used dimensional phaser technology to imprison Protector and many Xandarians in an alternate dimension and take the shape of The Champions. They then once again invaded Xandar, making it to the planet with ease under the guise they were Xandar's Champions.

ROM, who had ended up on Xandar while looking for his own homeworld, joined Nova and Powerhouse who had remained on Xandar in battling the Skrulls. Together they were able to free the rest of the Champions including Protector and after a war that waged months with unbelievable brutality that resulted in many deaths on both sides, The Champions of Xandar, The Nova Corps and Xandarians who had taken up arms, were able to defeat the Skrulls and repel the invasion. ROM left to continue his search for his homeworld and Nova was transported back to Earth, leaving his Nova powers behind on Xandar. Comet, also from Earth, stayed behind as a way to honor his murdered son Crimebuster. Protector, Powerhouse, Comet and Nova-Prime continued to act as the Champions of Xandar.

Years later, Nebula and her forces brutally attacked Xandar. They mercilessly slaughtered all inhabitants of Xandar including Protector and the remaining Champions of Xandar.

Notes:
The battle which claimed the life of Protector, his fellow Champions of Xandar (Nova-Prime, Comet and Powerhouse) and all remaining Xandarians on the planet at the time, actually took place off panel. It was revealed in Avengers #260 what had happened, when native Xandarian Firelord, returned home and found Adora dying. She was able to tell him what had happened just before she died, but no other characters that were slain were seen on panel. Protector's last appearance before his off panel death, was in ROM #24.
